Like millions of soccer fans all over the world, Passing Clouds is counting down the days to this summer’s world cup tournament in South Africa.

I was honoured at the weekend to attend the launch of our new Phase Three development, here at the retreat, and was deeply humbled by a special ceremony to mark the achievements made in South Africa, with the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the opening of our new Nelson Mandela car park.

Access to the new Nelson Mandela car park will be via the existing John F Kennedy coin operated security barrier.

It’s a warm welcome back to Ming and Tabetha following their return from the Birkenhead Emulsifier plant on the Wirral and the successful operation to remove the yellow growth on the side of Ming’s beak.

More good news was the reopening of the dolphinarium and the Board of Trade approval on welding repairs to the side of the tank.

So, it’s business as usual and feeding time will be held every afternoon at four o’clock. This will be for Tabetha only, at the moment, as Ming is currently being fed through a tube. But hey! Why not throw a few fish through the old kitchen blender and give Ming a treat too!

Highlights from the hit TV show ‘Rhyl’s Got Talent’ with Luke Benidorm.

Sally Quench-Jenkins can put away her bio-degradable bags and look to the future as she steps from simple Tesco checkout girl to international ventriloquial stardom. She was spotted by Luke at the Llandudno superstore when she vented a voice into his tin of corned beef on the checkout conveyor belt. Then, to the amazement of gathered shoppers, she managed to throw her voice into a box of Persil, third shelf up next to the freezer aisle.

But it was her performance in last night’s ‘Rhyl’s Got Talent’ grand final that set her on the road to world acclaim. Her victory, scooping eighty three percent of the personal alarms for the elderly vote, is seen as a record for the popular talent show.

Last year’s winner, Ifor Davis (the yodelling bailiff) performed his Argos Blues hit before presenting Sally with a magnificent floral bouquet.

Well done, Sally. Have a gottle of geer.

This weekend sees the celebration of the festival of St Dudno, after whom, nearby Llandudno was named.
Helping out with the Lord praising side of things will be our old friend, Pastor Pete,
who'll be bringing along his famous inflatable chapel.

Many of you will remember Pete for his unusual, and certainly unorthodox, baptism rituals. But divided opinion is a challenge Pastor Pete has always met with good grace, and it’s good to see him back in North Wales, following a long period of absence.

Sunday’s service will commence with a congregational salute to St Dudno’s ancient home, the Great Orme. Then, following tea and biscuits, the pump will be started and the inflation will commence.

From time to time, like most men, I like to varnish my feet with polyurethane wood stain. Sometimes I varnish a little higher up the leg and draw a thin black pencil line half way up the back of the calf, for greater effect.

Chit-chat, I know, but on a recent visit to France I was devastated to learn the government had imposed a ban on the use of polyurethane products with certain swimwear garments. Quel dommage! I cried. Frome-Fromage! What if the security scanner at Paris Charles de Gaulle were to detect my varnish! It was a long lasting, UV protected application too!

The solution, as it turned out, was remarkably simple…

Raising the Challenger

Challenger. Almost there

She has rested on the sea bed for over eighty years, barnacled, rusting and forgotten to the world. But now the Challenger is being raised to the surface and will return to Rhyl after her long voyage through time. It was the great storm of September 1936 that sent Challenger to the bottom, and though no fatalities were reported, her loss was deeply felt by the local community.

Built for the Rhyl and Prestatyn Steam Package company, Challenger became an old favourite for passengers plying the coast of North Wales, with many enjoying stunning scenery from her open top deck.

But the long journey that commenced in September 1936 is now nearing an end. Salvage teams are preparing for the final lift, ten metres from the end of Rhyl pier, and Challenger will finally come home. It will be a deeply moving day for the communities of Rhyl and Prestatyn, where a tear or two will certainly be shed .

Rap Star Theodore Snake

Rap star, Theodore Snake, caused a sensation during his live performance at Passing Clouds last night. The Hip-Hop legend was performing in front of a packed audience at the Forrester show bar, when he interrupted his act to introduce, on stage, what he described as 'a mega discovery in the world of rap' local shepherd Geraint Lewis-Jenkins from Portmadoc.

Geraint was spotted by Snake as the rapper was taking ‘time out’ to see some of the North Wales scenery. He described how he heard a low, tremulous rap beat coming from a field somewhere nearby. He looked over a hedge and saw Geraint working his dog, Totty.

Skull Jackson, Theodore’s personal bodyguard, described what happened next.

‘T da man sow the bro in da field, an Da bro was wid da sheep, man.’

Geraint wowed the audience with what is now believed to be some of the earliest examples of European rap music known. At one point, he took his teeth out and rapped a Denbighshire mule song, rattling the dentures like a pair of castanets on his knee.

Excited but tired, Geraint said after his performance, ’When Mr Snake popped his head over the hedge, I was shifting trespassers off my field, and he gave me quite a surprise. I thought he was speaking Welsh, at first! You don‘t often see folk like him in Portmadoc.’

A pair of green Hunter wellingtons have been taken from outside Mrs Leatherbarrow’s Atlantis 36 footer, at the Brambles, here on the retreat. ‘The Wellingtons had been left out to air for a while,’ said Mrs Leatherbarrow, who has offered a small reward for the safe return of the boots.

She has pointed out, as an aid to identifying the missing Hunters, that their colour matches her Honda Civic.

"The Star Voyager Time Tunnel"

The new "Star Voyager Time Tunnel" experience is launched this week at Passing Clouds Holiday Homes.

Described as The Ride of a Lifetime Star voyager is a Molecular Reconfiguration and Phase Shift Magnatron device (MRPSM) and has been approved by the Board of Trade and the North Wales Welding Federation.

First in the queue, for a ride of his life time, is Brendan Thirlmere, The Rhyl Examiners science, food and technology correspondent. In an explosive article, featured in this weeks issue, Brendan reveals a very personal story that he feels the Star Voyager may help to redress.

This is Brendan's moving story:

A long time ago, I was reading a Dan Dare comic while waiting for a job interview.

(Dan Dare was a British comic book hero who was hailed as ‘The World’s Number One Space Hero,’ and ‘Pilot of the Future!’)

He was a hero of mine, and the issue I was reading that day showed a cut-away picture of his space rocket. The picture showed where everything was, the flight deck, the main engine, the radio room; etc. Anyhow, at the front of the rocket there was a section that was left blank, with a note that read: ’Top Secret. Not to be revealed until 2010’

Well, I’ve waited all these years to find out what was hidden in the front of Dan’s rocket, But nothing’s happened. Years of wondering, when the world was facing so many great events, I was focussed on the day when all would be revealed in Dan’s rocket.

I’m not bitter, but had I been able to time travel, all those years ago, I’d have jetted to 2010 and found out it was all a ruse. Then, I’d have exposed Dan Dare as the fraud he was, and saved legions of his fans the torment of un-rewarded expectancy.

Breathing New Life

Few cinema go-ers of today will remember the time when mighty Wurlitzers thrust skyward at the front of theatres and picture houses, bringing with them gasps of admiration from surprised audiences as they burst into life. One such organ has risen, phoenix like, from the ashes of the old Roxy cinema, in Tendon street Llandudno.

Fondly referred to as, Eric, the organ is unique in being one of the few surviving gas driven Wurlitzers extant today. Gas driven organs of this kind were popular in North Wales at a time when the old Hoylake and Prestatyn Lighting company supplied marsh gas to homes and industry throughout the local area. The owner of H & P Lighting was the much respected Emrys Parry-Jones, grandfather of the Colwyn Bay entrepreneur, Ivor Parry-Jones, who’s endeavours have been pivotal in Eric’s restoration. Sadly, marsh gas has long since disappeared from the area but ingenuity has come to the fore. A clever modification to the organ’s fuel manifold means that Eric, now runs on Calor gas!

Senior organ restorer, Ronnie Ramone, was visibly moved when he struck the first chord during a ceremony to mark Eric’s return. ‘He’s running a bit flat at the moment’ Ronnie informed interested organ buffs who had gathered for the event. But he had words of hope. ’A bit of tuning and a new pressure regulator and he’ll be running fine.’

So far so good, but plans to mount Eric on his original hydraulic lifting ramp have hit a snag. The ramp was removed from the Roxy cinema and installed into Geraint Williams’ auto repair workshop in Ligament street, Colwyn Bay. Discussions are on-going but it is hoped a speedy and satisfactory outcome will soon prevail and Eric will, once again, reach for the sky.

Mike Kilo Victor One takes to the skies

Mike Kilo Victor One, Passing Clouds’ preserved Vulcan bomber, is rolling out for a summer spree of aerial excursions and seat of the pants mayhem.

Thirty minute trips from Heron Gwlad, our very own aerodrome, are scheduled for the coming months and will take in stunning views of Penmaenmawr and the Great Orme during a breathtaking sweep over Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea.

People still chuckle over the slight hiccup during last winter's 'Santa Special' when a thermo nuclear device simulator accidentally slipped out of the bomb bay over Rhyl. Not so, Tiger Roberts, Mike Kilo’s pilot and senior maintenance engineer. “It could have been a passenger!” he warned, cleverly twiddling a universal metric ratchet in his experienced crafts-manlike hands.

The summer schedule kicks off with a fully booked flight celebrating the wedding of Mike and Sue Peach (both airline pilots who own a Caravelle Super 48 footer on the retreat) The matrimonial bond is being timed for a surprise, simulated bomb run over Penmaenmawr’s Golden Gyro pub, where the happy couple first met, and will doubtless be cheered by many cowering well wishers from the darts team in the Gyro’s car park below.

The remainder of the summer flights feature a galaxy of stars who will perform live in-flight entertainment for your enjoyment. Topping the bill will be old favourite and singing legend, Tony Fondle! Followed by a special quiz night extravaganza, featuring questions themed on the cold war.

The weather here in Bangor has returned to its more familiar state with the recent bout of moderation no more than a distant memory. The rain has returned, and with it, the leak that drips through the deck above the fore-cabin of my boat and making a sodden mess of the fabric on my new foam seat cover.

Drip-drip-drip it went, all day yesterday. Every ten seconds, a drip landing on the foam.

So I decided to make a repair using some sealant and an old baked bean tin (a little trick I picked up in Bangalore)

The rain came again this morning and so did the drip. Not so frequent this time and I decided to time the leak using the stop-watch function on my mobile phone. One minute thirty three seconds! An improvement!

The rain continued to fall and it seemed to be getting heavier. I timed another drip and noticed the heavier rain had reduced the time of this drip to one minute thirty one seconds.

I kept on with the stop-watch test and came up with the following figures:

Drip 1 one minute twenty nine seconds.

Drip 2 one minute twenty six seconds

Drip 3 one minute twenty one seconds

Drip 4 one minute nineteen seconds

Drip 5 one minute seventeen seconds

Drip 6 one minute fifteen seconds

The leak had “saturated” at one minute thirteen seconds with the rainfall seemingly constant. I measured the area of the deck I thought to be the rainfall capture zone and made an estimation of the gradient of the deck above the fore-cabin. I then telephoned the Holyhead meteorology office and was informed the ash content delivered by the Icelandic volcano (Esspro!!lig*%thingy) was imparting a four micron particular component to a standard sixty second, one millilitre drip. So I was in luck! My drip had stabilised at one minute thirteen seconds and it was easy to extrapolate the Holyhead data to my own findings. I realised the rate of change was key to my study and set about identifying all the variables that were involved. The data was entered into an Excel file and a curve subsequently generated. I then set about developing a model for the dynamic progression and produced the following formula:

The model worked beautifully and I was able to forecast the rainwater collection at the seat fabric target point to 98% accuracy.

I then sent the findings to the Bangor Hydro-Marine Technology Institute and have since received their detailed report, which follows:

The Burj Bagillt down to thirteenth

It’s been a busy month for world super-structure record grabbing with the Burj Khalifa taking the tallest building title, which was lavishly celebrated during a spectacular opening ceremony in Dubai.

And further news of large appliance rivalry sees the Golden Gyro at Penmaenmawr lose its premier position as holders of the audio/visual record for in-bar entertainment. The Gyro’s ‘Big Screen’ has been dwarfed by a newly installed thirty six trillion mega pixel machine at the Conwy Indoor bowls and archery club, and Gyro landlord, Jacob Yehudi-Jones, is none too happy.

‘It’s a massive blow to the Penmaenmawr tourist trade,’ he said, as regulars in the bar shared the disappointment over a Monday morning pint. ‘We had them coming from miles away to see it.’

The Gyro’s next move is uncertain, but the sight of scaffolding being erected next to Sid Netanyahu’s tea shop, suggests the race for big screen supremacy may not be over.

In another blow to regional pride, it has emerged that the Dubai record breaking sky-scraper has relegated North Wales’ tallest building, the Burj Bagillt rates office in Rhyl, to thirteenth place in the world league.

A New Year’s message from Lord Roberts, owner of Passing Clouds.

2010 represents a year of challenge for Passing Clouds with the ever increasing demand for quality and good value in the face of stern competition from our rivals.

The current global financial situation has meant that many operators within the holiday home and leisure industry are faced with difficult decisions on where to invest ever decreasing funds.

I want to assure all who have chosen Passing Clouds as their preferred haven of relaxation, that we are striving to maintain the standards of excellence for which we have become famous. However, savings must be made, and i will be announcing the introduction of a series of measures that i think will tighten the way we go about our business.

In the meantime, and as a priority restructuring measure, i have decided to close the dophinarium with immediate effect. The Llandudno Women's Male Voice Choir

The Llandudno women’s male voice choir entertained yesterday when they chorused a rousing performance of Men of Harlech to a packed audience in Forrester’s fun pub and sports bar. Although impromptu, due to the cancellation of an earlier engagement in ColwynBay, the ladies soon found their voice. And after a marvelous festival of song, the evening came to a close with a sparkling medley of Norwegian sea shanties.

“Eisteddfod quality,” chimed Maria Kapinski, a bass baritone with the choir, as she climbed on the bus taking them back to Llandudno.

Well done ladies.

Team Trojan. A welding experience.

The weather was glorious for Team Trojan’s recent group bonding and jet-ski maintenance weekend, rounding off with the successful induction of two new junior surf wardens.

Guided by the experienced hand of Rannoch Gallacher, Passing Clouds Celtic historian, extreme survival expert and vertical flange welding guru, students undertook a range of demanding exercises in air- sea rescue and marine two stroke engine maintenance.

Australian surf star, Heidi Freemantle, demonstrated advanced search and recovery techniques on board Trojan, but the demonstration was not to be without a dramatic turn of events. Circling the polystyrene, swept out to sea, body on an inflatable lilo simulator, Trojan was seen to accelerate uncontrollably in the direction of Colwyn Bay, disappearing behind the mighty rock of the Great Orme. A few tense moments later and Heidi was seen bringing Trojan safely back to shore, the inflatable swept out to sea lilo simulator, strapped to her back. Ralph Freemantle, Heidi’s husband and Trojan’s senior support engineer, explained what had gone wrong. ‘The bladdy pivot screw snapped like a crazy dingo in a billabong.’ he said with an engineer's nod. But two minutes later and with a tweak with his adjustable ratchet, Trojan was ready to put to sea again.

All this was not to deter brother and sister students, Luke and Pippa Melbourne, who now join the team as guardians of the seas off Passing Clouds.

A proud Rannoch celebrated the event with a round of cold beers. But he had one final, surprise bonding demonstration up his sleeve, when he welded together a steel table and set of chairs, just for the occasion.

Funsters enjoying an afternoon at Foresters fun pub and theme bar were treated to a rare opportunity to experience the haunting melody of blues didgeridoo yesterday when Blues legend, Jimmy Slaven, pulled out his remarkable instrument.

Jimmy, who is taking a break from performing at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, owns a 42 foot Caravelle Voyager, here at Passing Clouds, where he penned many of his blues classics.

The impromptu performance included tunes from his album, Dream-world Dingo, with favourites such as, Walk-about blues and Billabong boogy, finishing the recital with breath-taking renditions of Z cars, and the theme tune to News at Ten.

What a guy.

Mohandas and Eric Rajput “The flying Rajputs” have landed safely here at Passing Clouds following their dramatic escape from captivity and the evil clutches of a notorious Calcutta travelling circus in Northern India.

The brothers, the only known one arm gay trapeze artists active today, have been telling of extreme cruelty and deprivation suffered whilst in the hands of the circus.

“They treated us like animals,” Mohandas revealed, cleverly unwrapping a donner kebab with his big toe.

And Eric spoke of the psychological torture he endured, “they hid my hair dryer!” he lamented, nervously fingering the side of his turban.

But it was Passing Clouds Celtic historian and extreme survival expert, Rannoch Gallacher, who was the mastermind behind the audacious leap to freedom. Heavily disguised as the American entertainment guru and boxing promoter, Renton Bellsmyre, he was able to infiltrate the dark and murky world of Indian showmen. In an act of great courage, he uncoupled the Rajput’s wagon from the rest of the circus train, halfway between Bombay and Bangalore. Then hauled the brothers back to North Wales behind the borrowed Ffestiniog light railway engine, ‘Prince of Portmadoc.’

A modest Rannoch would only say, “aye, It wisnae disnae world, ye ken, the noo. Am jist glad the wee brithers huv escaped yon scunners. Mind ah dinae care too much fer yon kilt lifting activities, ye ken.”

Olympic enjoyment at The Golden Gyro Inn, Penmaenmawr.

Sports fans celebrated a festival of Olympic achievement with the new ‘Big Screen’ at Penmaenmawr’s Golden Gyro this weekend.

“Incredible,” beamed local customer and ladies pole vault fan, Emrys Roberts. “It was like being in there with them!”

Retired shepherd, Eifyon Grffith–Jenkins, was also keen to add his praise for the big screen. “You could smell the sweat!” he said with gusto, sniffing suspiciously into packet of cheese and onion crisps . “Dripping off them it was, indeed to goodness, isn’t it, boyo. Bloody marvellous!”

Jacob Yehudi-Jones, the Gyro’s landlord, said that bar sales had trebled over the Olympic fortnight. “The regulars have been gripped by it,” he enthused, aiming the zoom control at the big screen as Bulgarian triple jumper, Heidi Freemantle, hurtled into the sand.

Great Expectations

Thousands of Manchester soccer fans arrived at Llandudno Junction today ahead of the European third round qualifier between local giants, Red Star Colwyn Bay, and celebrated visitors, Manchester United. The match, screened live across Europe, is being played at the impressive 225,000 all seater stadium inside the Passing Clouds holiday complex.

Keen to cement their position as one of the 'Big Three' in North Wales soccer, Red Star go into tonight's match with high hopes of maintaining a winning streak, a run that has seen them earn maximum points out of their last fourteen matches.

Local opinion favours a result for the home side, but caution appears to be uppermost in many of the fan's minds.

"It'll not be easy," Ivor Llewelyn-Jones warned, Red Star's experienced hot pie and filled rolls vendor, who was busy making vital last minute checks to his Calor gas bottles.

To this end Passing Clouds have managed to Second two fine Strathclyde Police officers who will police the traffic in the area of some 15 Kilometres around the Clouds and, exempting Rannoch's Sigma 4 Cloaking Device, will stop any vehicle acting in any way suspicious or illegal. We have provided some video footage of the said officers in action to reassure residents that we care. Johnnie di-Wonderful was the son of a poor Italian immigrant to the U.S.A. who, upon arriving at Liberty Island, had a liaison with a black immigration officer and there you have it, Johnnie was born, (9 months later of course). Struggling through the depression years, young Johnnie fought against abject poverty and prejudice to help his parents hack a living in an unforgiving world. He took to the gym to vent his frustrations and was soon spotted by the world famous boxing coach Marvin D Clusterbomb aka Marvin di-Marvelous. The rest is history and Johnnie went on to be the undisputed world champion and father 412 children as befitting of the boxing business.
Rannoch is aware of the possibility that Johnnie may wish to defend his title somewhere in Wales and says "Ah'll gub him an' blooter him so often he'll think he's surrounded" "Ah'll be aw ower him like a cheap suit."

Curlmaster have issued an urgent product recall notice for certain batches of their 'LOGBUSTA' fragmentation fluid.

The fluid is supplied for use with Curlmaster Bambi, Princess and Royal-Windsor toilets and can be identified by a batch number located on the underside of the container.

Batch numbers between CML055-2001 to CML055-2048 should be returned by hand to one of Curlmaster’s service depots. They also apologise for any convenience inconvenience and warn owner operators of Bambi, Princess or Royal Windsor toilets to be alert to any abnormal hissing or popping noises emitting from the vortex chamber. In the event of such noises, users must dismount from the machine immediately.

Heavily made up, Rannoch in spine-chilling mood as Yehudi Brave-Wallet

When Nostradamus Motion Pictures were casting for the lead role in a new blockbuster they were making, they looked no further than our very own Rannoch Gallacher, Passing Clouds’ Celtic historian and extreme survival expert.
“Perfect,” enthused Eric Zimmerman, Nostradamus’ chief executive, as he announced Rannoch’s appointment. “The guy’s got natural talent,” he swooned further, though there was a word of caution couched in his elation when he added, “I think we’ll need an interpreter pretty damn quick!”
The movie, a nervy gothic thriller set in twenty third century West Dunbartonshire, charts the epic battle for frugal supremecy between reclusive Tel Aviv spend-thrift, Yehudi Brave-Wallet (played by Rannoch) and arch rival, Darth Watson, a cosmic amicus warrior, who become locked in a bitter struggle of desire, revenge and prudence.

It was an enormous hit struck firmly in the middle of the bat, the ball lofted high over third man and wicket keeper, finally landing in the duck pond opposite the bowlers end.
‘Do you like cricket, Mrs Gillibrand?’ Birchall enquired as he lifted his left buttock from the park bench, fetchingly swinging a richly corduroyed leg over his right knee.
‘I can’t say as I do,’ Mrs Gillibrand replied, picking at a slice of stale bread she'd taken earlier from the dining room table.
‘Quintessentially English, cricket,’ Birchall continued, admiring the elegant tooling of his brown brogues. ‘Quintessentially English…’ but his voice trailed off as his thoughts became distant, and clutching his walking stick, his bottom lip began to quiver.
‘Leave it alone, Chubby!’ Mrs Gillibrand scolded, as an enterprising Eider duck lunged at a piece of bread, floating in the water. ‘I threw that for Goldie, not for you. No wonder you’re so fat.'
‘Corinthian!’ Birchall erupted, seemingly refreshed from his mental excursion. ‘Play up, play up and play the game, old chap. Captain Oats, a very gallant gentleman. Do not leave the igloo brave captain,’ he implored, as a man in flannel trousers, rolled up to the knees, waded into the duck-pond.
‘Irish I think,’ Mrs Gillibrand declared, placing the stale bread on the bench beside her. ‘He served in an Irish regiment, I’m sure of it.’
‘Who?’

‘Captain Oats, he was a captain in the army.’
‘I always thought he was in the navy,’ Birchall mused, swishing the end of his walking stick across some blades of grass. ‘He was a damn fine fellow wherever he came from; damn fine fellow.’
‘You look, erm, rather nice this afternoon, Mrs Gilibrand. Not too shabby, if I might say.’
Mrs Gillibrand straightened, and retrieving the slice of bread, placed it on her lap.‘Thank you, Mr Birchall.’
‘Prerequisite,’ Birchall chuckled, nervously fingering his jacket lapel. ‘Prerequisite in being a gentleman, gallantry. A gentleman would never hit a lady with his hat on, for example. Not that I would dream of striking you Mrs Gillibrand,’ he added with keen alacrity. ‘I was in the navy myself, destroyers.’
‘That must have been nice for you,’ Mrs Gillibrand said. ‘During the war?’
‘Yes, convoys, in the north Atlantic. They were good chaps in the wardroom, decent lot. I remember once we had a competition to find a suitable phrase with which to present ones desires in courtship, something to dignify the intent. The winner got five pounds.’
‘Do you remember any of them?’ Mrs Gillibrand asked, beginning to feel a little more at ease.
‘What were they now?’ Birchall thought for a moment. ‘Oh yes, I remember. “Would madam care to pluck a rose”, was one.’
‘That’s rather sweet.’ Mrs Gillibrand demurred.
“Would one permit one to mount one”, was another. That was the padre’s, if I remember right.’
‘And yours, Mr Birchall?’ Mrs Gillibrand asked coyly. ‘What was yours?’
“Would madam care to savour the Cumberland,” he said with relish, adding with a glint in his eye. ‘I still have the fiver.'
’The man in flannels stooped to pick up the ball, as Chubby and Goldie fought over a rich tea biscuit that had fallen from his shirt pocket.
‘We must be getting back to the home,’ Mrs Gillibrand sighed. ‘I think it’s pilchards for tea.’
‘Oh, that’ll be nice,’ Birchall said, stiffening as he rose from the bench.
Mrs Gillibrand linked her arm through his, helping him to his feet. ‘I doubt there’ll be any Cumberland on the menu tonight, Mr Birchall,’ she said, smiling.

Another new face joining us at Passing Clouds is Rannoch Gallagher, Our Celtic historian and extreme survival specialist. Arriving hot on the heels of fellow Scot, Fabrizzi McLaren, Rannoch is a well known face to millions of TV viewers, with his wild-life program, Highland Quest, and his sensitive study on children's behavioural tendencies in the award winning, Pass Me the Claymore, Mrs!

Extensively travelled, Rannoch has been able to learn seventeen languages, including Welsh! But he was quick to point out his delight at arriving in North Wales, saying, “ Ah widnae crinkle ma wee lum, ya slavering moosey, ye ken. The noo.”

Essentially a shy man, his wicked sense of humour is never far from the surface, and he was able to delight visitors to the Celtic Centre today with some extraordinary reminiscences of his travels. “Ya widnae muckle it,” he began, telling of an experience in Kalimantan, East Borneo, and the time he was instructing local villagers in fire fighting during the slash and burn forestry campaign in Indonesia. Deeply superstitious, the villagers celebrated each birth in the community by draping placenta on a tree in a nearby forest, the ‘placenta tree’, as it was known. Unfortunately, during one training exercise, he managed to set fire to the ancient tree, “ya widnae muckle mah bahooky,” Rannoch chuckled, “Ya could’na ken mah bahooky fer dust!”

Already renowned for superb haute cuisine, Passing Clouds just got a whole lot better thanks to the arrival of Fabrizzi McLaren, the well known celebrity chef. Fabrizzi joins us from the Royal Claymore Hotel in Dunfermline, one of Scotland’s top five hotels, and brings a unique blend of Highland and Mediterranean flavours, reflecting his Scottish and Italian parentage. Unlikely as it may seem, he started out as a mild-steel welder in one of Scotland’s mighty shipyards, on the Clyde, where he won the BOC diploma for vertical flange welding. But this was not enough for Fabrizzi, and his long held passion for haute cuisine was soon evinced, when he graduated from the John Tory school of cooking in Dumbarton, collecting the Dunlop gold medal for his impressive ‘Highlander Beef Wellington.’

A dramatic rescue operation was carried out off Herron-Gwlad this afternoon, as two scuba divers got into difficulties in heavy spring tides. Overseen by the Great Orme, a deep sea survival team, led by Tiger Roberts, battled against heavy odds to reach the two divers, who had become trapped by a submerged shopping trolley whilst exploring Careg Mawr underwater caves. But it was a happy Saint David’s day outcome as Luke and Pippa emerged from the chamber, with nothing more than a bent snorkel and the loss of Pippa’s left flipper. “Bloody Sainsbury’s,” quipped Luke.

Curl-Master, the motion extrusion facility supplier, have announced the launch of their latest extruder, the 150 litre Rapide. Unveiled last month at the international camping and leisure exhibition, in Innsbruck, the Rapide joins a fleet of well established extrusion products already in service worldwide.
Here at Passing Clouds, we are proud to claim that a significant part of the Rapide’s development was made with the assistance of our very own Tiger Roberts, who Curl-Master approached for guidance on a number of technical issues.
Combining rugged construction with stylish design, the powerful Rapide boasts a plethora of innovative safety features, alongside Curl-Master’s tried and trusted vortex combustor system.

You can see the Rapide in operation for yourselves, with a visit to The Captain’s Locker, the on-site chandlery and store. Ask Heather Roberts for a tour of the demonstrator model, and maybe take a test drive.

The Captain’s Locker is open daily between 09:00hrs and 18:00 and is closed on Sundays.

Mike Kilo Victor One, Passing Clouds' preserved Vulcan bomber, did just that over the weekend when chief test pilot, Tiger Roberts, lit the main engines and roared the super-bird into the skies over Rhyl and Prestatyn.

After taking off from Herron-Gwlad runway, Mike Kilo Victor One banked sharply to the right, sweeping majestically over the Great Orme and delighting a large group of spectators gathered for the event.

“She’s handling beautifully,” radioed Tiger from the cockpit as he studied all the complicated systems that keep the mighty Vulcan riding high in the sky. The forty minute sweep over Liverpool bay concluded with a text book touch down back at Herron-Gwlad.

The Dolphinarium just got a new arrival, or should we say two! Ming and Tabatha have splashed down at Water World, this week, and are just crazy about meeting you all.

Transporting Ming and Tabatha from their old home, The Marijn Scheep Bedrijf shopping centre in Rotterdam, had been a tricky operation. But under careful supervision from our expert marine biologist, Tiger Roberts, the pair have lost no time settling into their new home, here at Passing Clouds.

For those of you who are keen to know which one is which, Ming can be identified by a yellow growth on the end of his beak.
